Aqib Hussain, Ujala Kausar.

Abstract
Background: SMA syndrome is a rare disease occurring as a result of compression of third part of duodenum between SMA and aorta causing intestinal obstruction. The aortomesenteric angle is narrowed as compared to its normal angle
Case: An 18 year old boy presents with history of abdominal pain and vomiting. CT scan reveals SMA syndrome. was being managed conservatively on TPN. Later on barrium swallow showed achalasia which was treated surgically. Patient was discharged once tolerating good orally.
Discussion: SMA syndrome occurs most commonly as a result of weight loss, resulting in loss of omentomesenteric fat as was in our case. weight gain is the mainstay of treatment. surgery can be done if conservative management fails.

Key words: SMA Syndrome, Achalasia, Aortomesenteric angle
